Captain of the Ships are never assigned with dedicated timing at work rather they work round the clock. They spend their leisure time on the things they like or enjoy. Life at sea makes them more kind and caring about the journey of LIFE. Their encounter with sea and its waves make them stronger hence more thoughtful.
Some captains are enjoyable while some threaten their fellow captains with their incomparable intelligence and ability. There is a good set example of one of the captains who studied the Korean baseball team Lotte Giants for many years at a time when professional baseball became highly popular. He even wrote a draft on a ship and later published it entitled “Strategies for Lotte Giants”. The incident took place in 1990. Lotte Giant was so impressed by his work that they hired him as the senior leader of the team. Working as an owner for two years, he led the team which was at the bottom of the league to victory. He is now happily back on the ship with his dignity.
In the 1960s, the Korea Maritime and Ocean University graduated 100 students who studied with a national scholarship to become ship officers. Awkwardly, there was no ship they could board after graduation. Feeling bad and sorry for the students who left without jobs, a professor of the same university who was a former captain, decided to quit his job. He then moved to Japan and became a ship captain there. He then hired Korean sailors and sent them abroad. Roughly 50,000 Korean sailors were sent abroad in the 1980s, creating an annual revenue of 500 billion won. The current success of the Korean shipping industry is owed to this idealistic who made the brave decision to leave his job.
There is an amazing story of the captain who, unfortunately, crashed a boat full of fish into breakwater, which led to the sinking of the boat. This left the owner of the boat no choice but to shut down his business. A few years later, the captain paid several visits a year to the boat owner even after he became a captain of a different shipping company. It was his way of apologizing. The more experience he had in the sea, the more he came back with a boat full of fish. He was renowned by his virtue and made his name as the best captain.
Nobody can forget the real story of American Captain Richard Phillips who had been master of the vessel at the time when the cargo ship Maersk Alabama was seized by Somalia Pirates in the Indian Ocean. With his intellectual decision and experience he was rescued by American Navy without any harm to the crew and his ship.
The list of legendary captains is endless. Even at this very moment, numerous captains are doing their best in the sea. Without their devotion, there would be no trade and no electricity while no food on our table.
